Lost Lore Tequila Blanco

Lost Lore Tequila Blanco is a small-batch highland tequila from NOM 1414 in Los Altos de Jalisco, crushed using traditional tahona stone wheels rather than modern roller mills. The tahona method preserves agave fiber contact during fermentation and pulls mineral complexity directly from the volcanic stone itself, a slower and more labor-intensive approach that defines the artisan side of Jalisco production. Master Distiller Sergio Cruz oversees production at the Vivanco family distillery, where the highlands' iron-rich red soil and elevation above 2,000 meters produce blue weber agave with higher sugar content and more pronounced floral character than lowland fruit. The Vivanco family has farmed agave in the Los Altos region for generations, and their distillery sits at an altitude where diurnal temperature swings slow agave maturation and concentrate flavor. After tahona crushing, the agave juice and fiber ferment together in stainless steel tanks using native yeast, then undergo double distillation in copper pot stills. This blanco is bottled unaged to showcase that terroir directly: the mineral backbone from tahona stone, the floral lift from highland soil, and the clean agave sweetness that comes from distilling to proof without shortcuts. The cooler growing climate of Los Altos de Jalisco gives the agave a distinct profile that separates highland tequilas from their lowland counterparts. The nose opens with white pepper, lime zest, and wet stone, then moves into cooked agave sweetness on the palate with hints of green apple and a faint herbal bite. The finish is clean and peppery with citrus lingering at the edges. This is a blanco built for sipping neat or as the backbone of a margarita where you want the agave to speak clearly through the lime and salt.
